- Adam December 11 Swing KidsI know everyone is busy with exams and what not these days, but we also need to find a way to destress and relax. And what better way to take some time off than an HMS Laurier event? HMS Laurier will be presenting "Swing Kids" on December 13'th at 8:30 at the downtown JAva. IT is the story of two young members of the counter cultural swing movement in Nazi Germany. It features excellent performances by both Christian Bale and Noah Wiley of ER fame, and a terriffic soundtrack of the era's best swing tunes. I will personally be presenting the film and the discussion afterwards. So bring yourself and your friends, and get ready to have a swingin' good time.
Cheers,
-Adam November 28 Better Late Than Never!I want to apologize for the lateness of any details regarding our upcoming event. We've all been very busy lately. Anyhow, this Wednesday at 8:30 (We're moving it up a little) We will be presenting "Hotel Rawanda" the story of a Rawandan hotel owner during the genocide. The movie stars Don Cheatle, and Nick Nolte as Romeo Delaire, the Canadian General who headed the UN peacekeeping force in Rawanda. The film is very well done, and is definitely worth seeing. Like I said, I know we are all busy, but it is a film not to be missed.
Primer notes and tickets will be sent out very shortly, and remember to bring your friends.

The Historical Movie Society is all about discussion, so Feel free to post comments and start a discussion. I'll get the ball rolling. We saw in Zulu a positive view of Colonialism. How did the culture affect this portrayal? What are the benefiets and disadvantages of a colonialist agenda? Take it away folks...
